For all the benefits of screens, it’s so easy to walk into digital booby traps, like the one that exploded around me last night. We sometimes bring our phones and iPads to bed with us. Just the extra glows and buzzes of those can disturb sleep. Many of us sleep with wearable fitness bands. Those beep and buzz all the time. It’s no wonder they measure our sleep as “disrupted” and “restless”! During the day, we are surrounded by screens and technology and always pulled in a thousand distracted directions. The more screens, the less our brains can calm at night and get into a healthy sleep problem. This is not just a problem for adults but our kids, too.
I used to love reading books to my kids when they were small. Goodnight Moon and If you Mouse a cookie were 2 of their favorites. Now, a very wise author, Ann Droyd, has put a digital twist on those books with lessons for all of us. Check these out:
So, as we embark upon Internet Safety month in 2023’s very screen-infested world, let’s heed the lessons from these books: unplug more so we can enjoy life a bit better…and finally get a good night’s sleep. Perhaps something to dream about tonight…with your devices safely resting on the kitchen counter. They’ll still be there in the morning…promise.
